Background: The relationship between early life factors and childhood pulmonary function and structure in preterm infants remains unclear. Purpose: This study investigated the impact of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and perinatal factors on childhood pulmonary function and structure. Methods: This longitudinal cohort study included preterm participants aged ≥5 years born between 2005 and 2015. The children were grouped by BPD severity according to National Institutes of Health criteria. Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) were performed using spirometry. Chest computed tomography (CT) scans were obtained and scored for hyperaeration or parenchymal lesions. PFT results and chest CT scores were analyzed with perinatal factors. Results: A total 150 children (66 females) aged 7.7 years (6.4-9.9 years) were categorized into non/mild BPD (n=68), moderate BPD (n=39), and severe BPD (n=43) groups. The median z score for forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), FEV1/FVC ratio, and forced midexpiratory flow (FEF25%-75%) were significantly lower in the severe versus non/mild BPD group (-1.24 vs. -0.18, -0.22 vs. 0.41, -1.80 vs. -1.12, and -1.88 vs. -1.00, respectively; all P<0.05). The median z scores of FEV1, FEV1/ FVC, and FEF25%-75% among asymptomatic patients were also significantly lower in the severe versus non/mild BPD group (-0.82 vs. 0.09, -1.68 vs. -0.87, -1.59 vs. -0.61, respectively; all P<0.05). The severe BPD group had a higher median (range) CT score than the non/mild BPD group (6 [0-12] vs. 1 [0-10], P<0.001). PURPOSE: This study aimed to predict high-risk neuroblastoma among neuroblastic tumors using radiomics features extracted from MRI. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Pediatric patients (age≤18 years) diagnosed with neuroblastic tumors who had pre-treatment MR images available were enrolled from institution A from January 2010 to November 2019 (training set) and institution B from January 2016 to January 2022 (test set). Segmentation was performed with regions of interest manually drawn along tumor margins on the slice with the widest tumor area by two radiologists. First-order and texture features were extracted and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were calculated. Multivariate logistic regression (MLR) and random forest (RF) models from 10-fold cross-validation were built using these features. The trained MLR and RF models were tested in an external test set. RESULTS: Thirty-two patients (M:F=23:9, 26.0±26.7 months) were in the training set and 14 patients (M:F=10:4, 33.4±20.4 months) were in the test set with radiomics features (n=930) being extracted. For 10 of the most relevant features selected, intra- and inter-observer variability was moderate to excellent (ICCs 0.633-0.911, 0.695-0.985, respectively). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was 0.94 (sensitivity 67%, specificity 91%, and accuracy 84%) for the MLR model and the average AUC was 0.83 (sensitivity 44%, specificity 87%, and accuracy 75%) for the RF model from 10-fold cross-validation. In the test set, AUCs of the MLR and RF models were 0.94 and 0.91, respectively. CONCLUSION: An MRI-based radiomics model can help predict high-risk neuroblastoma among neuroblastic tumors.

In this study, we explore how the strategic positioning of conductive yarns influences the performance of plated knit strain sensors fabricated using commercial knitting machines with both conductive and non-conductive yarns. Our study reveals that sensors with conductive yarns located at the rear, referred to as 'purl plated sensors', exhibit superior performance in comparison to those with conductive yarns at the front, or 'knit plated sensors'. Specifically, purl plated sensors demonstrate a higher sensitivity, evidenced by a gauge factor ranging from 3 to 18, and a minimized strain delay, indicated by a 1% strain in their electromechanical response. To elucidate the mechanisms behind these observations, we developed an equivalent circuit model. This model examines the role of contact resistance within varying yarn configurations on the sensors' sensitivity, highlighting the critical influence of contact resistance in conductive yarns subjected to wale-wise stretching on sensor responsiveness. Furthermore, our findings illustrate that the purl plated sensors benefit from the vertical movement of non-conductive yarns, which promotes enhanced contact between adjacent conductive yarns, thereby improving both the stability and sensitivity of the sensors. The practicality of these sensors is confirmed through bending cycle tests with an in situ monitoring system, showcasing the purl plated sensors' exceptional reproducibility, with a standard deviation of 0.015 across 1000 cycles, and their superior sensitivity, making them ideal for wearable devices designed for real-time joint movement monitoring. This research highlights the critical importance of conductive yarn placement in sensor efficacy, providing valuable guidance for crafting advanced textile-based strain sensors.

Scoliosis is a three-dimensional spinal deformity, and paraspinal muscles play an important role as stabilizers of the spinal curve. In this prospective study, we compared elasticity changes in the paraspinal muscles of adolescent patients with scoliosis after surgery or bracing. Elasticity was measured on the concave and convex sides of the paraspinal muscles at the apex of the curve at the beginning of treatment and 6 and 12 months after treatment. Twenty-six patients with correction surgery (n = 15) or bracing (n = 11) were included. At initial evaluation, the Cobb angle was larger in the surgery group (72.3 ± 20.2° in surgery vs. 30.6 ± 5.1° in brace, p < 0.001). The estimated mean elasticity value of the paraspinal muscles was lower in the surgery group at baseline on the convex side (15.8 vs. 22.8 kPa, p = 0.037) and 6 months on both the concave (12.1 vs. 22.7 kPa, p = 0.004) and convex (13.4 vs. 23.8 kPa, p = 0.005) sides. There was a significant stiffness decrease from baseline to 6 months on the concave side in the surgery group (5.9 kPa, p = 0.025). However, the elasticity change recovered at 12 months without significant differences between the two groups.

Home modification is essential in helping older adults age in place safely and independently. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of housing location and disability status on home modification projects among older adults using the 2019 American Housing Survey Data. The study found that recent home modification strategies were significantly different according to older adults' housing locations and health status. Older adults in non-metropolitan areas and with disability were less likely to make home modifications, and when they did so, they spent less money on the modifications. The findings highlight the importance of providing adequate home modification programs and resources for home modifications, as well as support and education from community organizations, particularly for older adults in non-metropolitan areas. The results of this study can assist in developing housing policies and guidelines to address these current and future challenges in home modification implementation for the aging population.

OBJECTIVES: The aims of the study are to describe the frequency that functional goals are documented on the Minimum Data Set and to identify resident characteristics associated with meeting or exceeding discharge goals. METHODS: We selected Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries admitted to a skilled nursing facility within 3 days of hospital discharge from October 1, 2018, to December 31, 2019 ( N = 1,228,913). The admission Minimum Data Set was used to describe the discharge goal scores for seven self-care and 16 mobility items. We used the eight self-care and mobility items originally included in a publicly reported quality measure to calculate total scores for discharge goals, admission performance, and discharge performance ( n = 371,801). RESULTS: For all self-care items, more than 70% of residents had a goal score of 1-6 points documented on the admission Minimum Data Set. Chair/bed-to-chair transfer had the highest percentage of residents with a score of 1-6 points (77.1%) and walking up/down 12 steps had the lowest (23.2%). Approximately 44% of residents had a discharge performance score that met or exceeded their goal score. Older age, urinary incontinence, and cognitive impairment had the lowest odds of meeting or exceeding discharge goals. CONCLUSIONS: Assessing a resident's functional goals is important to providing patient-centered care. This information may help skilled nursing facilities determine whether a resident has made meaningful functional improvements.

BACKGROUND: The post-acute patient standardized functional items (Section GG) include non-response options such as refuse, not attempt and not applicable. We examined non-response patterns and compared four methods to address non-response functional data in Section GG at nation-wide inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRF). METHODS: We characterized non-response patterns using 100% Medicare 2018 data. We applied four methods to generate imputed values for each non-response functional item of each patient: Monte Carlo Markov Chains multiple imputations (MCMC), Fully Conditional Specification multiple imputations (FCS), Pattern-mixture model (PMM) multiple imputations and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) approach. We compared changes of Spearman correlations and weighted kappa between Section GG and the site-specific functional items across impairments before and after applying four methods. RESULTS: One hundred fifty-nine thousand six hundred ninety-one Medicare fee-for-services beneficiaries admitted to IRFs with stroke, brain dysfunction, neurologic condition, orthopedic disorders, and debility. At discharge, 3.9% (self-care) and 61.6% (mobility) of IRF patients had at least one non-response answer in Section GG. Patients tended to have non-response data due to refused at discharge than at admission. Patients with non-response data tended to have worse function, especially in mobility; also improved less functionally compared to patients without non-response data. Overall, patients coded as 'refused' were more functionally independent in self-care and patients coded as 'not applicable' were more functionally independent in transfer and mobility, compared to other non-response answers. Four methods showed similar changes in correlations and agreements between Section GG and the site-specific functional items, but variations exist across impairments between multiple imputations and the CMS approach. CONCLUSIONS: The different reasons for non-response answers are correlated with varied functional status. The high proportion of patients with non-response data for mobility items raised a concern of biased IRF quality reporting. Our findings have potential implications for improving patient care, outcomes, quality reporting, and payment across post-acute settings.

BACKGROUND: Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) of the bowel wall has been suggested as an alternative imaging modality for the follow-up of children with Crohn's disease. To demonstrate the feasibility and clinical usefulness of CEUS in the estimation of Crohn's disease activity in children with endoscopy as the reference standard. METHOD: In this prospective study, 30 pediatric patients with Crohn's disease (24 males and 6 females; median age 14 years) underwent CEUS from December 2020 to August 2021. The simple endoscopic score for Crohn's disease, pediatric Crohn's disease activity index, serologic inflammatory markers, fecal calprotectin and CEUS perfusion parameters were assessed and compared between the inactive and active group based on endoscopic findings. RESULTS: CEUS was performed successfully in all 30 patients. Two patients showed mild adverse side effects such as temporary dysosmia. The active Crohn's disease group showed higher erythrocyte sedimentation rate (mm/hr) (13.0 vs. 2.0, P = 0.003), C-reactive protein (mg/dL) (4.7 vs. 0.55, P = 0.018) and fecal calprotectin (mcg/g) (1,503 vs. 237.5, P = 0.005). Among the quantitative parameters for CEUS, the mean gradient to the peak value was higher in the active group (1.18 vs. 0.93, P = 0.034). The sensitivity and specificity of the mean gradient to the peak value for predicting active Crohn's disease was 55.6% and 83.3%, respectively, with a cut-off of 1.09 (P = 0.015). CONCLUSION: CEUS can be a safe and specific diagnostic modality for Crohn's disease activity in children. Among quantitative CEUS parameters, the mean gradient to the peak value could be used to differentiate active and inactive Crohn's disease.

BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia can be associated with the disease etiologies other than degenerative processes, such as neurologic disease including cerebral palsy, myelomeningocele, or Duchenne muscular dystrophy, even in children. Although the relationship between neurologic disease and scoliosis or ambulatory function is known, the mediators affecting scoliosis or gait function in these patients are unclear, an example might be sarcopenia. This study aimed to assess the degree of sarcopenia in young patients with neurologic diseases using computed tomography (CT), and analyze the correlation between sarcopenia and scoliosis or ambulatory function. METHODS: Pediatric and young adult patients (≤ 25 years old) who underwent whole-spine or lower-extremity CT were retrospectively included. From bilateral psoas muscle areas (PMAs) at the L3 level, the psoas muscle z-score (PMz) and psoas muscle index [PMI = PMA/(L3 height)²] were calculated. The t-test, Fisher's exact test, and logistic regression analyses were performed. RESULTS: A total of 121 patients (56 men, mean age 12.2 ± 3.7 years) were included with 79 neurologic and 42 non-neurologic diseases. Patients with neurologic diseases had lower PMz (P = 0.013) and PMI (P = 0.026) than patients without. In neurologic disease patients, severe scoliosis patients showed lower PMz (P < 0.001) and PMI (P = 0.001). Non-ambulatory patients (n = 42) showed lower BMI (ß = 0.727, P < 0.001) and PMz (ß = 0.547, P = 0.025). In non-ambulatory patients, patients with severe scoliosis also showed lower PMz (P < 0.001) and PMI (P = 0.004). CONCLUSION: Patients with neurologic diseases could have sarcopenia even in young age. Psoas muscle volume was also associated with ambulatory function in these patients. Sarcopenia was more severe in severe scoliosis patients in the non-ambulatory subgroup.

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to examine the patient characteristics and features associated with the initial rehabilitation utilization with a particular emphasis on outpatient rehabilitation after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) among 2016-2018 Texas Medicare enrollees. DESIGN: This is a retrospective cohort study. We used chi-square tests to examine the variability in patient demographic and clinical characteristics across the different post-acute rehabilitation settings after TKA. A Cochran-Armitage trend test was used to investigate the yearly trend of outpatient rehabilitation utilization after TKA. SETTING: Post-acute rehabilitation settings after TKA. PARTICIPANTS: The target population was Medicare beneficiaries aged ≥65 with an initial TKA in 2016-2018 and complete demographic and residential information (N=44,313). INTERVENTIONS: Not applicable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: We identified whether patients first used (1) outpatient rehabilitation, (2) home health, (3) self-care, (4) inpatient rehabilitation, (5) skilled nursing, or (6) other setting within the 3 months after TKA. RESULTS: Our results demonstrated an increasing use of the initial outpatient rehabilitation and home health, while the use of skilled nursing and inpatient rehabilitation facilities decreased from 2016 to 2018. The increase in outpatient utilization was significant in 2018 compared with 2016 controlling for distance to the TKA facilities, comorbid conditions, sex, race/ethnicity groups (White, Black, Hispanic, and Others), lower income (Medicaid eligible), Medicare entitlement types, age groups, and rurality (OR 1.23, 95% CI 1.12-1.34). However, the overall utilization rate of the initial outpatient rehabilitation after TKA remained low, increasing from 7.36% in 2016 to 8.60% in 2018. CONCLUSION: Despite the growing use of the initial outpatient rehabilitation after TKA, the overall rate of outpatient rehabilitation utilization remained low. Our findings raise an important question as to whether certain patient demographics and clinical groups might have limited access to outpatient rehabilitation after TKA.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the feasibility of ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE) for predicting hepatic fibrosis and native liver outcomes in patients with biliary atresia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective study included 33 consecutive patients with biliary atresia (median age, 8 weeks [interquartile range, 6-10 weeks]; male:female ratio, 15:18) from Severance Children's Hospital between May 2019 and February 2022. Preoperative (within 1 week from surgery) and immediate postoperative (on postoperative days [PODs] 3, 5, and 7) ultrasonographic findings were obtained and analyzed, including the SWE of the liver and spleen. Hepatic fibrosis, according to the METAVIR score at the time of Kasai portoenterostomy and native liver outcomes during postsurgical follow-up, were compared and correlated with imaging and laboratory findings. Poor outcomes were defined as intractable cholangitis or liver transplantation. The diagnostic performance of SWE in predicting METAVIR F3-F4 and poor hepatic outcomes was analyzed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses. RESULTS: All patients were analyzed without exclusion. Perioperative advanced hepatic fibrosis (F3-F4) was associated with older age and higher preoperative direct bilirubin and SWE values in the liver and spleen. Preoperative liver SWE showed a ROC area of 0.806 and 63.6% (7/11) sensitivity and 86.4% (19/22) specificity at a cutoff of 17.5 kPa for diagnosing F3-F4. The poor outcome group included five patients with intractable cholangitis and three undergoing liver transplantation who showed high postoperative liver SWE values. Liver SWE on PODs 3-7 showed ROC areas of 0.783-0.891 for predicting poor outcomes, and a cutoff value of 10.3 kPa for SWE on POD 3 had 100% (8/8) sensitivity and 73.9% (17/23) specificity. CONCLUSION: Preoperative liver SWE can predict advanced hepatic fibrosis, and immediate postoperative liver SWE can predict poor native liver outcomes in patients with biliary atresia.

IMPORTANCE: Overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome and urinary incontinence, age, and comorbid burden are strong risk factors for falls in women. Less is known about their cumulative effects on fall risk in a urogynecologic population. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of coexisting OAB, older age, and comorbidities on risk of falling among treatment seeking women with pelvic floor disorders. STUDY DESIGN: We conducted a retrospective medical records review of 348 consecutive women presenting to a urogynecology clinic over 6 months. Fall risk was determined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's, Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths, and Injuries screening tool. Clinical and sociodemographic measures were abstracted from the electronic medical record. Odds of screening positive for high fall risk based on different patient profiles were calculated. We then used a classification and regression tree analysis to determine the relative importance of the different variables on fall risk within the homogeneous subgroups. RESULTS: Of the 348 women (mean age, 58.7 ± 15.8 years) who completed the fall risk screen, 124 (36%) screened positive for increased fall risk. Overactive bladder symptoms increased the likelihood of a positive fall risk screen across all combinations of age and comorbid burden. The patient profile of ≥3 OAB symptoms, ≥4 comorbid conditions, and age 65 years or older increased the odds of screening positive for high fall risk more than 6-fold (odds ratio, 6.4; 95% confidence interval, 3.1-12.9). In the following order of importance, the combination of high comorbid burden, OAB, and older age identified approximately 3 in 4 patients (73.3%) at high risk of falling. CONCLUSION: The presence of 3 easily identifiable patient characteristics is strongly associated with a risk of falls in women seeking care for pelvic floor disorders.

Previous literature has suggested physical exercise may improve cognitive impairments and mitigate depressive symptoms. However, few studies examined the impact of resistance exercise intervention on cognition and depression in older Chinese Americans. The purpose of this pilot study was to assess the effects of resistance exercise training on cognitive performance and depressive symptoms among community-dwelling older Chinese Americans. The study was a two-arm randomized controlled trial with pre-test/post-test design. Thirty older adults were randomly assigned into the resistance exercise intervention group or the wait-list control group. Participants' cognitive performance and depressive symptoms were evaluated at baseline (pre-test) and at 12 weeks (post-test). The results showed that there were significant differences between the intervention and control groups on changes in symptoms of depression, global cognitive function, visuospatial/executive functions, attention, language, and orientation. However, there were no significant differences between both groups on changes in naming, abstraction, and delayed recall domains. The findings of this study suggest that resistance exercise training has a positive impact on improving cognitive performance and depressive symptoms in older adults.

Structural defects at the surface and within the bulk of perovskite films hinder efficient energy conversion in solar cells due to the loss of charge carriers through non-radiative recombination. Post-passivation approaches have been proposed in an attempt to eliminate surface defects, with bulk defects being rarely studied. Moreover, it is of interest to investigate the difference in the perovskite crystal growth with and without simultaneous defect passivation. Here, we study a new crystal growth strategy to realize high-quality triple-cation perovskite crystals via utilizing microwave irradiation combined with a continuous supply of defect passivators from a reservoir solution of trioctyl-n-phosphine oxide (TOPO). The proposed method facilitates the growth of perovskite crystals with TOPO ligand coordination in the whole film region. Consequently, the processed perovskite film demonstrates distinctive features of significantly suppressed non-radiative recombination, substantial defect reduction and morphological changes compared to the perovskites processed by conventional thermal annealing. The power conversion efficiency is enhanced owing to the improved open-circuit voltage (Voc) and short-circuit current (Jsc). The results of this study are expected to assist in the development of diverse approaches for the control of perovskite crystal growth with in situ defect passivation toward high efficiency in solar cells.

OBJECTIVE: To understand the sociodemographic, geographical, and clinical characteristics of rural veterans utilizing home modification (HM) healthcare services under the Home Improvement Structural Alterations (HISA) program, to compare these characteristics between rural and urban veteran users, to estimate the costs of HMs performed, and to present distance that users traveled to HISA-prescribing medical facilities within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). BACKGROUND: Accessible housing is in short supply. HMs allow veterans with disabilities (VWDs) to remain living at home rather than enter institutional-type settings. HISA is associated with decreased inpatient hospitalization rates and increased use of preventative healthcare via outpatient clinic visits. Home accessibility provides psychological benefits improving social interactions and interaction with the physical environment. METHODS: This retrospective database study analyzes data from the National Prosthetics Patient Database and other medical datasets within the VHA. RESULTS: Results provide a profile of and comparison between rural and urban veteran users. HISA users are substantially older compared to younger VWDs. The frequency of bathroom, railing, and wooden ramp HMs differed significantly between rural and urban users (p values < .001). Rural users traveled more miles than urban users to reach a prescribing facility. CONCLUSIONS: Older adults and individuals with disabilities have unmet housing needs since accessible housing is in short supply. This HM healthcare service is helping to meet the housing accessibility needs of older veterans, VWDs, older adults, and people with disabilities, in general.

Solution-based blended polymer materials are promising for electronic applications in many fields. However, determining a controllable method to achieve electronically active organic films through the practical liquid deposition process is very challenging. In this study, we suggest employing hybrid binary organic mixture inks (an insulating polymer polystyrene (PS)) and an organic semiconductor (6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethnyl)pentacene (TIPS-pentacene)) to manage and enhance the characteristics of TIPS-pentacene organic layers using a bar-coating method. Binary mixtures with PS molecules can provide various microstructures, crystal orientations, and molecular stacking of the active TIPS-pentacene organic layers under the proper fabrication parameters during bar-coating. Varying the molecular weight of the PS mixture, weight percentage of the TIPS-pentacene, and deposition parameters, such as the bar-coating speed, direction, and contact angles between the crystal orientation of TIPS-pentacene and Au electrodes, is crucial to guarantee high-electronic properties. The electrodes with TIPS-pentacene/PS (MW = 4000) binary films at a 40 wt% TIPS-pentacene ratio demonstrate the outstanding room-temperature field-effect mobility of 1.215 cm2 V-1 s-1, four times higher than that of pure TIPS-pentacene transistors (100 wt%). The performance improvement of the TIPS-pentacene layers is highly attributed to the ideal spherulite structure and thick molecular stacking properties, which can guarantee favorable charge transport paths through organic films. These findings demonstrate a promising strategy for blending organic applications to improve the performance of organic electronic devices using practical fabrication processes.

BACKGROUND: The abnormality of imaging finding of lymph node (LN) has demonstrated unsatisfactory diagnostic accuracy for pathologic lymph node metastasis (LNM). We aimed to develop and validate a simple scoring system predicting LNM in patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) prior to surgery based on MRI and clinical findings. METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled consecutive patients who underwent surgical resection for treatment-naïve iCCA from six institutions between January 2009 and December 2015. Patients who underwent lymph node dissection (LND) were randomly assigned to the training and validation cohorts at a 2:1 ratio, an¹ìd pathologic LN status was evaluated. Patients who did not undergo LND were assigned to the test cohort, and clinical LN status was evaluated. Using MRI and clinical findings, a preoperative LNM score was developed in the training cohort and validated in the validation and test cohorts. RESULTS: The training, validation, and test cohorts included 102, 53, and 118 patients, respectively. The preoperative LNM score consisted of serum carcinoembryonic antigen and two MRI findings (suspicious LN and bile duct invasion). The preoperative LNM score was associated with pathologic LNM in training (p < 0.001) and validation (p = 0.010) cohorts and clinical LNM in test cohort (p < 0.001). The preoperative LNM score outperformed MRI-suspicious LN alone in predicting pathologic LNM (area under the curve, 0.703 vs. 0.604, p = 0.004). The preoperative LNM score was also associated with overall survival in all cohorts (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Our preoperative LNM score was significantly associated with pathologic or clinical LNM and outperformed MRI-suspicious LN alone.

Background: Geospatial analyses illustrating where the Home Improvements and Structural Alterations program (HISA) have been prescribed suggest that home modification (HM) services under US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is not prescribed and used uniformly across the US. Methods: The objective of this study was to identify county characteristics associated with HISA use rates, such as county-level measures of clinical care and quality of care, variables related to physical environment, and sociodemographic characteristics. Multiple regression analysis was used to predict county-level utilization rate from county-level variables. Results: County-level HISA use was highly skewed and ranged from 0.09 to 59.7%, with a mean of 6.6% and median of 5%. Percent uninsured adults and rate of preventable hospital stays emerged as significant predictors of county-level HISA utilization rate. Specifically, county percentage of uninsured adults was negatively related to county-level HISA utilization rate (b = -8.99, P = .005). The higher the proportion of uninsured adults the lower the HISA utilization rate. The county rate of preventable hospital stays was positively related to county-level HISA utilization rate (b = .0004, P = .009). County-level predictors of housing quality were not significantly associated with county-level HISA utilization rate. Conclusions: Our research fills a gap in the literature about the impact of county-level variables and the geographic distribution and use of HISA. More research is needed to understand and account for geographical variation in HISA use. This work serves as a first step at quantifying and predicting HISA utilization rate at a broad level, with the goal of increasing access to HMs for veterans with disabilities.

Biliary atresia is a rare but significant cause of neonatal cholestasis. An early and accurate diagnosis is important for proper management and prognosis. To diagnose biliary atresia, various imaging studies using ultrasonography, MRI, hepatobiliary scans, and cholangiography can be performed, although ultrasonography is more important for initial imaging studies. In this article, we review the findings of biliary atresia from various imaging modalities, including ultrasonography, MRI, hepatobiliary scans, and cholangiography. The known key imaging features include abnormal gallbladder size and shape, periportal thickening visible as a 'triangular cord' sign, invisible common bile duct, increased hepatic arterial flow, and combined anomalies. Aside from the imaging findings of biliary atresia, we also reviewed the diagnostic difficulty in the early neonatal period and the role of imaging in predicting hepatic fibrosis. We hope that this review will aid in the diagnosis of biliary atresia.
